Little something I’ve been working on…

Thought I’d post a little tour down movie sheet lane on WDLXTV-Live I shot last night, in case you haven’t already seen it. The code works fairly well and is currently under beta testing, it will be ready for the public soon. The theme is by PsychoTHC.

There are three modes:

  • sheet – 1280×459 banner

  • wall – 500×720 wall
  • std – 1280×720 full screen sheet

I go through them in the video in that order, then reverse when I change listing format. Enjoy :D

Now would be a good time to hunt down some excellent movie sheet generating software. :) Thanks go out to Titi for providing the Movie sheet templates, which only required a slight amount of tweaking to work on the Live…and again to Titi for getting the ball rolling in the first place, without his jumpstart my code my code would’ve sat neglected–yet almost there.

…can’t wait too! (;

what about network drives. will “movies on an NAS Server” be supported without having a copy of the sheets on an USB pen?
That would be great!!!!

<<< edit: affirmitve, although they don’t work 100% for some reason through ‘Network shares’. Even using the same test set. Anything you xmount will work like local though. –b-rad >>>

Good news !!

Their are some issues with psychothc_mod_05_4.osd.bin, WDLXTV_LIVE-0.4.1.9-4 and MSheet.app.bin

If all works together is excellent ! (for the moment my solution to have all working is to use psychothc_mod_05_3.osd.bin instead of the last revision).

Where are we going to tune the MSheet application? In the S00custom-options ??

Thanks for your good work B-RAD

any chance to get it working with full 1920×1080 sheets?

<<< edit: the OSD is 720p, you can try and supply 1080p sheets and maybe they’ll appear clearer. –b-rad >>>

Sounds Interesting, Downloaded the Movie Sheet Maker and played..

I was just happy having wdtvlive = my 1st ever
standalone thing bought that plays HD content..

1) You mention that the themes need a little tweaking to work on the Live. If we start generating movie sheets now. Is there anything special we need to do to them?
2) Also, as superherodad mentioned. Will support be ‘built-in’ to your code, or will we need to do something further to get it working other than copying the movie sheets into the folders?
3) At the moment, I am using my computer as a server for the WDTV Live streaming from my externals. You mentioned ‘mounting’ the drives. Is that pretty straight forward and easily accomplished through your code?
4) Lastly, I have not patched my WDTV yet, and will probably wait until this is available. It sounds like all I need is a USB stick to do that, correct?
Thanks for your time!

<<< edit: Ask on the wdlxtv forums, much detail there. –b-rad >>>

Just picked up a WDTV Live the other night. Anxiously awaiting movie sheet integration before I upgrade the firmware.

Thanks!

I give a guess that the “play from usb dvdr” stored
avi`s, mkv`s etc issue will never be solved!!

Guess I got used 2 copy stuff I want to watch =
from dvdr`s copy over via LAN to wdtvlive.

Maybe store stuff dvdr is old fashoined nowerdayz :(

<<< edit: My optical drive kicked the bucket. Its a bit hard for me program something which i don’t own, not to mention the motivation of working on something that doesn’t apply to me anymore. I’ve said many times, IF an external usb optical drive finds its way into my hands, then I’ll work on it. Plus anyways there is optical drive support in UMSP which is built in. –b-rad >>>

what’s the easiest (windows / DOS) way to move each .MKV file into it’s own ‘same as the filename’ directory please?

Thank you.

Dude, I can’t wait! Soon as I get my home theater polished off here w/ the MSheets final touches, I’m slipping you and Titi some keg moneys!

Oh, and where did you get that sick stage curtain background?

Dave
March 30th, 2010 03:54

Well I have an extra external USB optical drive that I’ll gladly send your way b-rad. I’m pretty sure it’s a DVD burner but at the minimum it’s a CD-RW and DVD-ROM. While a “play from DVD” feature doesn’t interest me in the least (seems like a step backwards tbh) I’d still donate the drive for the community and as a thanks for all you’ve done. I’m very excited about the movie sheets on WDTVLive too, I was actually regretting not getting a WDTV over the past few months for that exact reason.

Umm why would you delete my comment and offer? I couldn’t care less whether you want the drive or not, like I said I think playing from DVD is a step backwards anyway, just wondering why you would delete the comment within a couple hours of it being posted.

I have tried to get Msheet’s working with WDTV Live and only got it work in the Wall mode.

So I am looking forward to your release.

Any idea of when you will be releasing it?

It will be a great addition to the software and I really appreciate the time you are taking to do this!!!

Gizmomelb ,

Create a batch file (movemkv.cmd) in the directory where your .mkv movies are.

Copy this into the batch file:

FOR /F “delims==” %%a IN (‘”dir *.mkv /b”‘) DO (md “%%a.dir” & move “%%a” “%%a.dir” & rename “%%a.dir” “%%a”)

Save it then run it.

Do this at your own risk as I take no responsabilty. I suggest you make a test directory with some small or fake mkv files first and see if this works for you.

Why do you wnat to move your mkv’s to a directory of its own, is this necessary to use the movie sheets?

<<< edit: I’d rather have one dir per movie instead of one dir with 6X the files littering it up. Its up to you. –b-rad >>>

This looks great!! I’ve installed WDLXTV_LIVE-0.4.2.0 firmware, updated the WDTV Live with S00custom-options set to allow movie sheets, created all my movie sheets using a number of different generators (thumb gen and TVIXie better ones) and renamed and organised the files on my WD USB HDD (as per B-RADs demo folders which I downloaded) but no joy!?! Have I forgotten to do something?
