thanks for you work!
what’s the chances of implementing the DTS to stereo downmix by the alt firmware?

<<< edit: thanks. Chance of DTS downmix at this time are slim to none ;-) –b-rad >>>

Hi ^^

Can you extender the row number

for List files AVI , from 7 to 10 ?

( use small char size and more space used )

<<< edit: think i found the max the osd would provide was 8…which is why i chose 8 instead of 9 ;-) As for you other question about pw protected directories, easy/short answer: no. –b-rad >>>

I’ve tried to flash both 0.5.3.1 and 0.5.3.2 when previously running 0.5.2 to WDTV and it just sits there after rebooting at the WD logo screen – no progress bar and flashing message. have tried switching off and factory rest via paperclip in the little hole but nothing I try works. BUT if I thry and flash the WD 1.02.07 standard firmware it flashes just fine but of course without all the extra functionality.

So I seem to know what I’m doing with flashing but I can’t seem to get 0.5.3.xx to work. Any suggestions?

<<< edit: For some people it apparently takes its time. If your flash device contains a hidden U3 partition (fake cd) it’ll do like this too. –b-rad >>>

Hi,

I am trying to update from 0.4.4 to 0.5.3.2, but when it starts to reboot the media player locks up.
And all of my updates i have done have worked fine until now…any ideas?

<<< edit: Does the device you’re trying to upgrade with contain a hidden U3 partition? That will cause what you describe. –b-rad >>>

I have a problem upgrading from 0.5.2. I copied the new 0.5.3.2 firmware files over the USB key where I have the 0.5.2. I am stuck on the start up WDTV screen like there is no USB key attached.

I have upgraded my WDLXTV firmware pretty consistently without problems in the past.

I booted back to 0.5.2 without problem.

Is there something I am doing wrong?

Thx for all your great work. I was using 0.5.3.1. before without a glitch running NFS. However lately when I’m playing a clip for more than 5mins, I cannot stop, pause, forward/reverse the clip. It will keep on playing until I have to umplug the power. I know the remote is working b’cos I tried the power and home buttons. And I decided to try 0.5.3.2. yesterday and it still does the same thing. Do you know why this happens?

<<< edit: Some people had the type of problems you are…not sure what causes it, I don’t have issues and many others don’t. A new release is forthcoming so hopefully noone experiences anything like it anymore. –b-rad >>>

I’ve been looking around your site.
It’s awesome work.
I was trying to figure something out but can’t get the answer on my own.

Without having a Linux system, what features do I have access to because of not being able to code in Linux?

Is there a list?

“In order to take advantage of this tutorial you’ll need to be running either WDLXTV or ext3-boot, and have access to a Linux computer or Linux filesystem tools.”

I am not familiar with these tools, a little point to the right direction please?

<<< edit: I’m not sure what you’re trying to do, but I have tried my best to code everything for the non-Linux user. Read the text files & scripts that are inside the wdlxtv firmware zip file for a bit more insight than might be provided here. I’ll look over and see if I can get more info up sometime. –b-rad >>>

Today I installed WDLXTV for the first time and it’s constantly scanning for attached USB devices.. Is this normal?

I am having the same problem as Pat.
I upgraded to O.5.3.2 and when it restarted, it stuck on the logo screen
Tried using the paper clip on the reset button for 10 seconds, and nothing happened.

What do I do??

I’m having the same problem as Pat. 0.5.2 loads fine, 0.5.3.2 doesn’t do anything during installation but stay on the start up screen.

I must have not given it enough time to load the new firmware. Just gave it another try and it worked fine.

Just wanted to clear my own failure up so others would not be worried about trying this.

Hi B-Rad, please help with this problem:

1) installed your 0.5.3.2 + Samba
2) I can see Windows shares via CIF on my PC and play 720p perfectly. 1080p plays well for some minutes, the start to jump
3) bought a NAS (IcyBox IB-NAS4210-B), disk formatted in ext2
4) I cas see Windows shares via CIF on the NAS, and play 720p well, as on my PC
5) I set-up NFS share on the same directory on the NAS and mounted on the WDTV
6) I can see the NFS share and files into it, from the WDTV, but all files play very bad. Even files with low resolution plays for 5/6 seconds, than hangs, then play again for some second, then hangs, and so on.

What can it be ???
Please help
Thank you !!

<<< edit: not to sure what you could be encountering, NFS is much faster than CIFS…Ask at wdtvforum, someone else might know. –b-rad >>>

The answer to my previous post, so everyone can know it:

if you have slow playback from NFS shares, you have to modify the xmount command, including a larger block transfer size (rsize, wsize). My xmount now is like this:

xmount 192.168.1.10://mnt/ide4/video1 NASvideo nfs rsize=32768,wsize=32768,tcp

and I can stream a whole 2 hour 1080p video without problems.

Hi

Had no idea the WDTV could do all this stuff before I bought it :)

So not being one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I’ve tried to install WDLXTV v0.5.5…but…once i’ve said yes to upgrade the firmware from the settings folder, and when the box reboots, it stops at a blank screen.

I’ve left it for ages and nothing :s

I tried the hard reset button but the best I get is back to the WD splash screen and thats it (no update progress bar etc).

So after I’d finished swearing a bit, I did a google search and followed the suggestion to install the latest WD firmware upgrade…to my GREAT relief, it installed and the box was back up and running.

Having that ace up my sleeve, I thought i’d try to install WDLXTV again…so deleted the WD firmware and reloaded WDLXTV firmware onto the USB drive…same result…after saying yes to upgrade, on reboot = blank screen.

Again, a reinstall of the WD firmware worked and the box works again.

I made sure media library was on, I used a WD Passport as the install drive – same that I reinstalled WD latest firmware – can’t see where i’m going wrong?!

Help please – really want to get this thing networked but i’m falling at the first hurdle.

Cheers

<<< edit: my guess is that you have a U3 device with a hidden recovery cd partition on it…those aren’t compatible with wdlxtv. Remove the U3 partition and you should be good. –b-rad >>>

Hi Sergio,
I’m also suffering with slow playback performance over NFS. I’m using haneWin with mount settings as:-
xmount 192.168.1.2:/DVDs DVDs nfs udp,rsize=32768,wsize=32768
What NFS server are you using?
Thank
Steve

<<< edit: My NFS’s are debian or ubuntu, I’m 100% nix. I’m going to investigate the speed issues soon. –b-rad >>>

Nice stuff, I just wonder if i uppgrade to wdlxtv, can i later put back the official firmware by rename it to a higher name like uppgrading it normally or do i have to do something special to remove wdlxtv? Thanx

Anders

<<< edit: of course, exactly like you say ;-) –b-rad >>>

Anything based off the new 1.03 FW, or have you stopped working on the 1st gen FW..

<<< edit: I released a 1.03.01 firmware well over a year ago. http://b-rad.cc/wdlxtv Refer to forum.wdlxtv.com for further support & discussion. –b-rad >>>

I’m having problems installing, I downloaded and placed files in my flash usb device placed ( along with wdtv bin and ver files) in my WD media player (gen 1) and nothing seems to happen. I notice no installing of the wdlxtv. I have upgraded to the latest official software, and have install no other version of wdlxtv.
